Ashfield community radio station creates archaeology bursary scheme

Linking with MABN’s December 2025 theme of ‘Go Make A Difference’, Takeover Radio 106.9FM (Ashfield’s community radio station) has issued an invitation to all MABN members to join them in supporting the Ashfield Young Archaeologist Bursary programme.
After a successful trial of the programme with Mercian Archaeological Services CIC in 2025, the station is looking to help inspire more young people in their passion for history and archaeology in 2026.
Each place on the bursary scheme allows a local young person, who otherwise wouldn’t get a chance, to learn archaeology professional skills on site in Sherwood Forest, to gain a unique work experience for their CV, and to start building their own Archaeological Skills Passport record (the industry’s recognised document for recording skills and experience).
The bursary will be promoted across all the district’s secondary schools and colleges and across the Takeover Radio schedules, social and local media – with full recognition and promotion of every business that sponsors, or co-sponsors a place.
