February Business Spotlight: Caremark Mansfield and Ashfield

About Caremark
Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield is a family-run business whose services cover everything from specialist support for people with physical disabilities and end of life care, through to simple tasks such as meal preparation, shopping, and companionship.
The company, headquartered in Sutton-in-Ashfield, started in 2013. However, Simon and Joanne Ford, a husband and wife team, took over the business in March 2020, just a week before the first national COVID-19 lockdown.

The couple used to work in disaster management before coming into the care sector, so despite this monumental obstacle put in the way, they were able to use their experience to work their way through the pandemic with the support of their team, and the company has continued to grow ever since.
Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield is an approved provider for Nottinghamshire County Council and now delivers over 2,000 hours of care (council and privately funded) each week and employs over 100 staff.
Coffee Club
In 2024, the company launched a new community-based initiative, known as Coffee Club. This is a monthly event held in a room at The Salvation Army premises in Bowne Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, with the aim being to bring people together for free refreshments, cake, and activities (such as bingo and chair exercises), with a view to encouraging social interaction, particularly for Caremark customers who live on their own.

One of the regular visitors to Coffee Club is Beryl Osborne who says she enjoys the company and likes the different activities they put on, especially the bingo.

“I live by myself and apart from the carers who come, I don’t really see anyone else, so it’s nice to get out and be social,” she says.
Specialist Support
One of Caremark’s customers who receive support in their own home is Josh Wood. Josh has a significant learning disability with associated complex needs which include being registered blind, non-verbal and having epilepsy which causes different seizures that require him to be supervised at all times for his own health and safety. He also uses a wheelchair.

His mum Benita is his main carer but due to the complexity of her son’s needs (he also has sensory processing issues), she has always required professional support for Josh.
Benita says: “His favourite carer is Kelly. She completely adores Josh and vice versa and it’s great to see them together.
“She can now identify one of his seizures before they come on and take the necessary action, so it’s a real comfort to know he is in such great hands with her.”
“At 21, Josh doesn’t want his mum with him all the time. He is his own person so the support I get from Caremark helps the both of us.”
